Totara Tree Tent

Booking and Availability

Cliffside Totara Tree Tent

The Cliffside Totara Tree tent is set amongst beautiful native bush in rural Waiuku, just 50 minutes drive from the CBD and 15 minutes inland from black sand Kariotahi Beach.

The Totara Tree Tent is suspended between two mighty totara trees offering a unique elevated glamping experience in the midst of native bush. It's surrounded by pristine, mature bush and a NZ working farm, and offers a completely different experience to the three Cliffside Coastal Tents. The ambiance centers on bush tranquility, bird song, and natural surroundings—perfect for disconnection and relaxation.

These specially designed tents have everything you need. Although completely off-grid, solar power produces electricity for lighting, cental heating, stereo and even an espresso machine and refrigerator. So bring your own food to self-cater, or add the full catering package for the ultimate in 5-star glamping. All you need to think about is getting yourself there - the rest is taken care of.

Terms of Booking

  •  I understand that, for health and safety reasons, check-in isn’t possible after dark. Arriving late will mean my stay is forfeited and no refund will be provided.  This is due to the buggy’s provided to get to your tent (Coastal Tents only) cannot be driven after dark due to the terrain. So please plan your stay to arrive during daylight hours.
  • We want you to enjoy your off-grid break for as long as possible but our solar systems need time to soak in that lovely west coast sun and power up to give you the best experience possible :) I understand that early check-ins and late check-outs that are not prearrange and booked with Cliffside reservations will result in a $250 fee.
  • I understand that if I do not select Cliffside’s catering option, I must bring all food supplies for the duration of our stay suitable for BBQ cooking, as tents are not equipped with stovetops, ovens, or microwaves.  For your safety, buggies cannot be used for travel to after dark.
  • I understand that Cliffside will charge a fee to cover unexpected cleaning costs or damage incurred during my stay. This includes damage to any Cliffside property such as the accommodation, buggies and buggy parking sheds.
  • I understand that smoking or vaping is strictly prohibited inside the tent, and that a cleaning fee will apply if smoking-related odours are detected after my stay.
  • If booking a coastal tent, I commit to reading and abiding by all instructions provided by Cliffside on how to operate the golf buggy before leaving the buggy shed.  When driving the buggy, I will stick to the designated track to the Cliffside tent at all times. Buggies are strictly prohibited from driving in areas other than the outlined track on the map provided.
  • I am aware my stay is off-grid - without mobile service or wifi.  Service and wifi can be found at the Cliffside carpark if needed.

Things to do

This is the ideal place to completely unplug and reconnect. Read, relax, and soak in the outdoor tub. Cosy up in bed with a good book and listen to the sound of the birds as they flit through the trees.

Back at Cliffside, which is a 15-minute drive out to the coast you'll find a range of activities, such as archery and clay target shooting, all which need to be booked in advance. You can take a walk at Karioitahi black sand beach(highly recommend), visit Awhitu peninsula beaches or lighthouse, or have a beer at the historic Kentish Hotel.
